MUSIC ARTIST CRUSHES STONE FOR SURVIVAL

In a fast growing city of Mutare, the need for building materials is on the rise while the cost of these materials continues to sore under the hash economic conditions in Zimbabwe. For those in the music industry the situation has not spared them as artists have to 'hustle' everyday to get by.
Traditional folk/come reggae music singer Papason aka Harison Kabasho has had to make music his second priority, turning to stone crushing as his main business. Papason lives in Zimta community of Mutare and crushes stones for sale to home builders in Zimta (Kwabhuru). Papason has also recorded a song on stone crushing. The song titled The Rock has enjoyed massive downloads on the social media platforms, particularly Whatsapp.
Papason says the music industry is not well paying such that he can make a living off it. Now and then he performs at paid up concerts around the city but the income does not stretch far enough to sustain him.
Turning to local music promoters Papason said although they were now including local artist on their music calendars, there was need to revise the amount of money they charge to perform at their show. Local music artist receive a paltry figure of around $10 to $25 per show.
Papason says he derives his inspiration from day to day situation that he come from in his music composition. Three years ago he had a hit song 'hupfambi' which he wrote after a couple was found love making in the Nyakamiti mountain near GMB. Papason was on that day crushing stones in the same mountain and he witnessed the encounter and quickly came up with a song.
Papason who records with Optisonic Studios says if he gets good sponsorship he would like to acquire his own set of music instruments and form a band.

DREY DREVIS NOT DEAD

The Local music fraternity was this week brought into mayhem has disturbing news that one of the upcoming dancehall musician of Hakaka fame, Drey Drevis had passed on. Drey Drevis real name Kudakwashe Mukwekwerere's death had come about as a result of a post on whatsapp group status which read, 'May his soul rest in peace'. Members in the same whatsapp grouping quickly began to send messages of his death to other people in their contacts.
In one of the whatsapp post it read,'bad news guys Drey hd a fatal accident on his way to harare near marondera and died on the spot'. What made the issue seem real was that for some reason, Drey's app was not online.

His producer Leeman also received the sad news and was seen weeping and morning for his artist.
Latter in the day, Drey had to send voice notes and txt messages to his contact dispelling the news that he was dead.
I spoke to Drey and he said he also received the news with shock. He is well and had not even set foot to Harare over the said period.
Whether this was a celebrity stunt to get fans following Drey Drevis, the story looked too good to be faked.
Drey is currently working on releasing new music tracks that include a response to a musical war between him and the Uncle of Dancehall music Peter Guns.

Manicaland successfully hosted the NASH Athletics competition at Hillcrest College from the 16-17 March. All the ten provinces of Zimbabwe participated.

MUTARE HOST NATIONAL SECONDARY SCHOOLS ATHLETICS 2016

Mutare is playing host to the National Association of Secondary School Heads 2016 Athletics Competition.
The competition which is held annually is being hosted at Hillcrest College starting today 17 March until 18 March 2016.
The competition will see secondary school students take part in track and field athletics. Those who are successful will be drafted in the the national team to compete in future international competitions.
Sport and Recreation Commission Manicaland partnered with Optisonic Multimedia Systems to do accreditation and certificates of merit.

ZITCOSA ZONE A 2016 Athletics Results

Mutare Teachers College is the host for the 2016 annual (ZITCOSA Zone A) Zimbabwe Teachers' College Sports Association sports games competition, running from the 16th to the 19th of March 2016. Zone A comprises of Mutare Teachers', Marymount, Morgenster, Masvingo and Bondolfi teachers' colleges.

The games are held on a rotational bases around the Zone A member colleges.
Sport games being competed in are Soccer, Netball, Handball, Rugby, Chess, Table tennis, Lawn tennis, Darts, Pool, Cricket, Karate, Hockey. Over 500 student teachers, including officials and lectuerers are participating in the annual sports event.
Daniel Kuwengwa-Sport and Recreation Commission Zimbabwe was guest of Honour at the official opeining ceremony held in the Sakubva Stadium which was also the venue for athletics in his speech said it was preemptive for teacher training colleges to embrace STEM subjects in the curriculum.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects have been noted as key subjects that can help to transform the economy of Zimbabwe if they are taken seriously.
Optisonic Multimedia Systems is providing services in Event Management.
Services provided include print works for program booklets, Certificates of merit for winning students athletes, Production of results and other general print works.
